Is there any necessity to remind that the toothbrush is the main tool to clean the surface of teeth and gums? But not every brush is practical for that.
The toothbrush must have artificial bristles, comfortable tale and the roughness of the bristles must correspond to the state of teeth and gums.
Hard toothbrush may be used only after consultation with the dentist. And if teeth are oversensitive or there is a risk of gum bleeding a soft toothbrush must be used. The best variant is the toothbrush having unequal length of bristles.
The toothpaste also is chosen according to the state of gums and teeth. If the teeth are oversensitive then toothpaste for sensitive teeth should be chosen. In case of gum bleeding and existence of pain antibiotic toothpastes should be used.
Although toothpastes that contain chlorhexidine should not be used for more than 10-14 days. Chlorhexidine may instigate development of susceptible strains of microbes which is the antagonist of fluorine and thus yellows the color of tooth. For that reason the toothpastes containing chlorhexidine are assigned only in stage of exacerbation of inflammatory diseases.
Today there is a great variety of toothbrushes. Toothbrushes differ in their color, shape, size, etc. In dentistry two types of toothbrushes are distinguished-mechanical and electric.
Many people think that the electric toothbrushes surpass the mechanical ones in many things. For this reason the electric ones are used more and more frequently.
The dentists have come to a conclusion that these kinds of toothbrushes have many disadvantages if used incorrectly, which happens often, and it can have negative effects as far as that kind of toothbrushes do not clean dental deposits properly and as a result dental caries is developed.
Today ultrasonic toothbrushes are very popular. The most important property of such kind of toothbrushes is the existence of ultrasonic waves. In stomatological clinics during the process of professional cleaning this kind of ultrasound is used, but that one is more powerful than the ultrasonic toothbrush. Under the influence of ultrasounds the bacterial node is eroded which gives the opportunity to remove the dental plaque form the tooth surface. Besides this kind of brushes have also vibrations due to which besides ultrasonic influence also mechanical cleaning is performed.
If you have decided to get this kind of toothbrush, first consult the dentist in order you could use it correctly.
Today there are number of means for private oral hygiene. That means of hygiene are relatively subdivided into two types-obligatory and contributory.
The obligatory means are the toothbrushes, toothpastes, flosses.
The oral irrigator belongs to the group of contributory means. The irrigator is an original ‘mouth shower’. And for people who have different orthopedic constructions in the mouth, implants, dental braces it is necessary.
The principle of the work of the irrigator is the following: with the help of water flow it cleans the remnants of food from the hard-to-reach zones especially from the interdental zones, bridge prosthesis and so on. The water flaw also has a massaging effect for the gums improving blood circulation and nutrition. Besides water antiseptics or curing liquors may be added in the irrigator, which affect the soft tissue of mouth cavity positively. Due to that the irrigator is indicated to the people having healthy periodontium as a mean to prevention of different diseases.
The irrigators may be family and private. The advantage of family irrigator is that it is useful for the whole family as it has several changeable private headings. Even children can easily use it. Besides stationary and home irrigators there are also portable irrigators which might be wireless and several times smaller than the stationary ones.
If you have decided to buy this modern novelty, firstly do not forget that no matter how fine it would be, it cannot ever replace the process of tooth brushing. Secondly, one cannot use those antiseptic rinses that frequently. Such kinds of liquors are not advisable to use more than two weeks, because they can develop dysbacteriosis of mouth cavity.
Health-due to a thin thread
Dental threads or floss is used to clean the interdental zones. For cleaning teeth firstly toothbrushes are used, but no matter how super-new and modern toothbrushes they are, they clean only three of five surfaces of tooth. Yes, tooth has five surfaces-internal, external, chewing or incisive, and two mesial. The toothbrush cleans all surfaces except two mesial, and no matter how much we want to clean them the toothbrush simply cannot reach there. Thus, for this reason dental floss was created.
With the help of flosses interdental zones are cleaned where the tooth deposits and food remnants are gathered the most. It should be noted that in case of inefficient cleaning dental caries is developed especially in the mesial surfaces of the teeth. Besides, inefficient cleaning may lead to gingivitis with its all complications.
Different types of flosses are differentiated
Firstly, they are made of natural or artificial material. The natural ones are made of silk, while the artificial ones are made of nylon, caprone or acetate.
Secondly, the floss can be either waxed or not. As a rule unwaxed flosses provide better result.
Thirdly, the flosses are distinguished according to their thickness, e. g. round floss is used for larger interdental spaces; flat floss is used for narrow spaces.
And at last forth, flosses can be either ingrained with special stuff or not. There are menthol flosses for freshness and pleasant odor, fluorine flosses for caries prevention. There is another type of floss which is called super-floss. They are used for periodontal diseases, as well as for cleaning of orthopedic constructions such as dental crowns or bridge prosthesis.
Floss is given to use every time after eating, but as it is not possible to use it every time, it is advisable to use it at least once a day before sleeping. Floss of about 30-40 cm length should be wrapped to the middle finger (some wrap it to the index which is wrong). If the upper jaw should be cleaned then the floss is stretched with thumbs, if the lower jaw is to be cleaned-with the indexes.
Thus the floss is moved smoothly within teeth without any efforts and gum injury. Then the floss should be compressed to the mesial surface of the tooth and clean it with back and forward movements. Each tooth should be cleaned like this, and each time the used space of the floss should be replaced with a new one.
While using floss one must remember that in case of its inappropriate usage the gums might be injured, so it would be better to consult the dentist first in order to study the right way of flossing.
